Barry's Tea
Company History and Background
Founded: 1901
Barry’s Tea has a long established reputation and heritage as Ireland’s leading tea blender. The company was founded in Cork City in 1901 by James J. Barry, Great Grandfather of present Managing Director Tony Barry, where we still blend our tea today. From a small family run business, it has grown to become one of the Top 20 grocery brands in the Irish market. Barry’s Tea dominates the premium sector of the tea market, with its Gold and Classic Blends. Since 1901 the focus on quality has been at the heart of everything we do. Our teas are selected from only the best tea estates in the world, which our tea buyers visit regularly. We source the teas mainly from the high mountain tea estates in East Africa. This unique climate means that excellent quality teas can be produced all year round, guaranteeing a constant freshness, essential for meeting and maintaining our high quality standards. We also like to keep our blends rich and diverse by using specially selected teas from the Assam Valley of India. Our Tea Tasters are experts in their field and have carefully passed their knowledge and expertise down through generations of Tea Tasters, ensuring that we always have the highest possible quality standards. Samples are tasted daily in Cork, to select the right blends to create the unique Barry’s Tea taste. In recent years, as health and wellbeing have become a priority for consumers, Barry’s Tea has introduced a range of Green Teas and Fruit & Herbal Infusions. Our more established blends are also packed in Foodservice friendly pack sizes. We are extremely proud of our products and when it comes to the quality, flavour and consistency of our blends we never compromise.
